Contacting Hertfordshire County Council by phone

Make sure you know the best way to contact your local county council by phone, email or online.

From 1 February, callers will be unable to contact us using old 01923 helpline numbers.

For fours years we have had 0300 numbers which are dedicated for the use of local councils and government departments. They cost no more than a national rate call to an 01 or 02 number and count towards any inclusive minutes in any mobile or landline phone contract in the same way as 01 and 02 calls.

The old numbers will be turned off on 31 January so it is important everyone takes note of all the 0300 numbers on www.hertsdirect.org/contact

From 1 February callers to our old helpline numbers starting with 01923 will hear a ‘number unobtainable’ tone.

Frances Button, Cabinet Member for Customer Service, said: “If you have a vulnerable friend, neighbour or relation who regularly contacts us by phone, please make sure they are calling an up-to-date number.

“Our friendly and knowledgeable customer service operators are there to help, with dedicated people for all service areas.”

Your local county council’s phone lines are open Monday to Friday from 8am to 8pm and Saturdays from 9am to 4pm. Lines are closed on Sundays and public holidays. If you are concerned about the welfare of a child or adult outside of office hours please call 0300 123 4040.

There are plenty of ways to find out about our services without having to pick up a phone. Our website www.hertsdirect.org lets residents have access to information 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We are keen to support people getting online through the local library, both by having computers available and also through one-to-one support sessions. Please call (0300 123 4049) or visit your local library for further details.
